Filmkritiken zum Film "Death at a Funeral"

Die Klasse 1h hat sich mit dem Film "Death at a Funeral" eingehender beschäftigt. Im Folgenden finden Sie die Filmkritiken, die die Klasse verfasst hat.

Film Review

The director of the film „Death at a Funeral” is Frank Oz. He won 2 awards with it in the year 2007. The story is about a funeral of an old man. His whole family and some friends come to it. It`s not a normal funeral, because happen a lot of mistakes and funny things happen. The film belongs to the genre comedy and so I expected a funny and humorous film. Also because of the trailer I watched before. The story isn´t completely unrealistic, but I don´t think that all these things happen in reality at the same time. The main characters are Matthew Macfadyen as Daniel and Rupert Graves as Robert. They are brothers and the sons of the dead man. Daniel´s best friend Howard (Andy Nyman) is also at the funeral. Peter, who had an affair with Daniel´s and Robert´s dad, is played by Peter Dinklage. There is also Kris Marshall as Troy and his sister Martha, who is played by Daisy Donovan. Her boyfriend is Simon (Alan Tydik).

There aren´t so many special effects in the film. So it seems more realistic. The camera creates a lot of beautiful scenes, for example the green garden in front of the house and also the sunset at the end of the film. film.

I enjoyed the film, because it was very funny and I laughed a lot. I can`t remember any bad points in the film, so I would watch it again. On the whole it was a good film and I can recommend it to people who like black humour and don´t take the things to serious. The film is rather for younger generation so not for older people. The scene I enjoyed the most was, where Simon locked himself in the toilet. Martha tried to get him out and so she said a couples of times his name. However this didn´t work so she said his nickname “Si” and he answered back “mon”. I can compare this film maybe with “the dictator”

Death at a funeral - film review

After Daniel‘s father had died, his sons Daniel and Robert, a successful writer living in New York, had to organise his funeral, which the whole family and the dead‘s homosexual boyfriend were invited to.
The whole thing gets out of control because the niece‘s husband-to-be was unfortunately set on drugs. Peter, the boyfriend of Daniel‘s father wants to be paid off by 15,000 pounds so that he will not publish intimate pictures of the sexual interactions Peter had with the married father.
The result of the plot is a mixture of funny situations, black humour and realising that the heart of a human is not determined by his sexuality.

Directed by Frank Oz, also known as the director of „The Muppet-Show“ and published in 2007, this film won two awards.

By reading the title, you could expect the film to be a thriller but after one minute with the first joke, you realise that the plot is meant to be funny by containing a lot of black humour.

The main characters are the brothers Daniel and Robert, accompanied by their loyal friend Howard, the cousin Martha and homosexual Peter. The acting performance of these characters was really convincing and it made the plot seem like everyday life.

The film was funny with no weaknesses excepting few weak jokes. The use of black humour makes the film recommendable to all sort of people above the age of 12, because there is a certain maturity and knowledge required to understand the jokes. People with no sense of humour should not watch it either because some of the jokes are racist.
To put it in a nutshell it is a funny and exciting film, which is very typical for the British sense of humour and their way of life.

Film review – „Death at a funeral“

After the Christmas break we watched a film in the school, which is called „Death at a funeral“. As we heard we will watch a comedy at school we expected an ordinary film with standard jokes, but it came different...

The film is about a funeral wich escalates. The leading part is played by Matthew Macfayden. Also important are Alan Tudyk, Peter Dinklage and Rupert Graves. Matthew Macfayden’s Daniel is stressed, exhausted an sad because his father died and he should pay for the funeral. His brother Robert (Rupert Graves) is a succesful author and a little bit arrogant. Peter (Peter Dinklage) is the antagonist. About the role of Alan Tudyk we don’t want to spoil anything...

The humour in this film is very black  and breaks many taboos, but it’s the always funny, especially the last scene is extremely droll. A bad point ist that the plot ist foreseable in some parts.

The film is very good entertainment, but it has no deep message. We enjoyed the film and we can recommend it for everyone who likes British and black humour.

Film Review Death at a Funeral

The Film Death at a Funeral is about the funeral of an older man who already had adult children and at this funeral a few mistakes happen.

The director of the film, Frank Oz, won the Audience Award at both the US Comedy Arts Festival and the Locarno International Film Festival. It’s a comedy film with very much black humor and there’s no message, it’s just to be funny. The characters are very different to each other but not very inventive. The actors played very well. The camerawork is very good, although there aren’t any beautiful scenes and the camera is never used in a special way.

I first thought it will be a very funny film but I have been disappointed, it has one or two funny scenes and the rest is ok but it’s not my humor. The best scene, I think, is the scene when the son of the man who died, his wife and his mother are standing at the coffin and the wife say to the mother: “If there’s anything I can do Sandra.” And the mother says: “Don’t put your hands there you leave muck marks.”

I would recommend this film because I think many people like this kind of humor and they will enjoy it, but it’s not my humor.

At the end of the day I would recommend this film although I didn’t like it very much.

Death at a funeral

Death at a Funeral is a British comedy film directed by Frank Oz and written by Dean Craig. The movie is very funny and exciting with black humor, as you can already see in the trailer. The main role character is Daniel, who organizises the funeral of his dad, who died. Daniel was ready to welcome his fathers friends and relatives, but this didn’t go as expected. The wheel-chair uncle, Daniels brother (a famous writter) and several cousins (some oft hem are impaired with drugs) make the whole funeral to the head. One of the reasons why this happened was a mysterious dwarf among the mournes and nobody seems to know him...Matthew Mcfadyan took the role of Daniel, his wife during the movie was Keeley Hawes as Jane. Rupert Graves was Robert, the brother of Daniel. Their mother was Sandra better known as Jane Asker. These roles were very convincingly well played, because these roles fitted very well to them. In the movie wasn’t special effects, because it should be realistic. The background was very nice, it was a big house further away from the city in the nature. We enjoyed the film, because it was a very funny film. There were always funny scenes. The single bad point from the movie was, that it wasn’t really realistic. One oft he good scene was at the end, when uncle Alfie was naked on the roof (after taking the „Valium“) and said: „everything is so fucking green“. We will recommend this movie to people who are always have for a joke. We think a few people don’t like the movie, because it’s too much of black humor fort hem. But we think the movie has a good plot and is very funny, so we’ll recommend it. You can also compare the movie to some other movies like: Wild Tales, it’s also a comedy movie. There are six different stories in one film, but every little movie is similar to the movie Death at a Funeral.
So we gave the movie a 4.5 rating
